Cambridge City Council Proposal Map - How to

Finding places within the district Zooming and panning

There are several ways to find places of interest on the proposals map.
  1. Using the Map Pins Menu
Using predefined "map pins" - using the drop down list box immediately above the map it is possible to select from a number of major development sites or any of the parishes in the district. Once an area of interest has been selected, click the "Go" button and the page will refresh showing the selected area in much greater detail.
  2. Zoom In buttonZoom Out button
    Zoom inZoom out
"Zooming" - Using the magnifying glass icons it is possible to zoom in and out of the map, simply select either zoom in (+) or zoom out (-) and click on the map. When the map redraws it will be centred at the selected point, making this tool a quick way of navigating to a particular area from the districtwide view.
  3. "Panning" - Surrounding the map is a dark blue border with arrows pointing in 8 directions. Clicking any of these arrows will scroll the map in that direction without changing the zoom level.

Policies

Info Button
Info
The underlying map is in black and white so any policy sites can easily be seen on top in colour. The key below the map can be used to identify the type of site and the info tool can be used to identify the site's related policies. Selecting the info tool and clicking a site will reveal a list of related policies above the map. Clicking the name of the policy will load the document and automatically scroll to the policy, from there it is possible to make an online representation or just read the specifics of the particular policy.

Viewing policies

Below the link to a policy are two other options:
  1. Highlight all sites related to this policy - A policy can be linked to many sites. Clicking this link will highlight all of the sites related to the policy. nb. In some cases the sites are spread across the district and the map may zoom out too far to be able to easily identify each of them.
  2. Highlight selected site only - This link will highlight the particular site on which the info tool was clicked.
When reading the documents online, policies with a globe icon next to them have an associated map object. Clicking this icon will load the map, centred on the policy site.
